NSC Enrollment Checklist

Student Portal and Email

Activate MyNSC and student email.

MyNSC is NSC’s student portal system. MyNSC gives students access to their account information and online campus resources. First year students must activate their MyNSC account which will also give them access to their email. Visit NSC Student Email FAQ’s to learn more.

Student Orientation

New student orientation is designed for students who recently graduated from high school and will begin their college experience at NSC. Through interaction with the Online Orientation Platform and the Online Orientation session, students will:

Receive their class schedule
Hear information about their major, important campus resources, and student life at NSC
Connect with a variety of campus departments, including their RISE Peer Mentor

All students must register for an online orientation session. In order to receive an orientation invite and registration link via email, students must have placement scores (SAT, ACT, Accuplacer) on file at NSC. Students will receive reminders consistently until they complete registration.

Financial Aid

Review financial aid and complete verification process, if necessary.

Financial Aid – Once you have been accepted to NSC, you will be able to view your financial aid on the NSC portal.

Review your financial aid and deduct the estimated cost of tuition to calculate any out-of-pocket expenses.

DACA/Immigrant students must complete a Non-Federal Aid Application for financial aid options.

Acknowledgement of the Millennium Scholarship – Students are initially notified of their eligibility for the Millennium Scholarship program in early August following high school graduation. Qualifying students will receive an award letter from the State Treasurer’s Office describing the terms and conditions of the scholarship program. To receive funding, students are required to complete the Acknowledgement of Award process online.

Financial Aid Verification – The financial aid verification process is required by the U.S. Department of Education. Institutions are required to collect and maintain specific documentation on selected FAFSA records before disbursing federal funds.

Approximately 30% of students who submit a FAFSA will be federally selected for verification. Students who are selected for verification must submit the requested documents in order to receive their financial aid.

If you are selected for verification, you will be notified in one of two ways:

· You will receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org

· You will receive a postcard from Inceptia with NSC’s unique website link to start the verification process.

We encourage you to begin the verification process within 7 days of receiving notification from Verification Gateway to ensure you receive your financial aid in time for the payment due date. Failure to complete the verification process could result in the delay or denial of your financial aid.

Housing and Work Study

Apply for housing and work study.

Housing – If you plan to live on campus at NSC, you will need to complete a Housing application. You will want to call 702-992-2290 for details regarding application fee, meal plans and deadlines.

Federal Work Study – As a NSC student, you may be able to work on campus. The Federal Work Study program provides eligible students with jobs on campus. Student eligibility is determined via the FAFSA.

The U.S. Department of Education provides funding for a limited number of students to participate in this financial aid program. Eligible students are offered an award that will pay their wages during semesters/terms of employment.

In order to be considered for a student employment position, students should first complete the FAFSA, then apply for open student positions through jobs.nsc.edu.

In order to qualify, students must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in the current or upcoming term, maintain a cumulative NSC GPA of 2.0 or above, and be eligible for employment in the USA. Students may not exceed 19.5 hours of work per week, and are paid twice per month. Funding is provided by both the institution and the Federal Work-Study program.

Documentation

Follow up with important documentation including official high school transcript, ACT/SAT test scores, and immunization records.

Official High School Transcript – Students must submit their official high school transcript.

Visit the Clark County School District website to request an official high school transcript.

Institutions sending transcripts through a secure email method may use the following address: admissions@nsc.edu.

ACT/SAT Test Scores – Students must submit theirr ACT/SAT test scores to be placed into the correct level of Math and English courses.

ACT and SAT test scores may be sent electronically from the testing agency using the following codes: ACT 2486/SAT 4572

Hard copies of official transcripts and test scores must be in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution or testing agency and may be mailed to the following address:

Immunization Records – Students must submit a copy of their immunization records (shot vaccination records).

Students can upload their records online.

If you do not have a copy and need to request a copy of your records, visit Nevada’s Statewide Immunization Information System.

Summer Bridge or Early Start Program

Get a head start by participating in a summer bridge or early start program.

Nepantla – The Nepantla Program is a competitive four-year commitment dedicated to empower first-generation college students through mentorship, academic skills, access to resources, community building, and professional success through self-discovery.

Trio Student Support Services – The mission of Student Support Services is to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Student Support Services also provides students with the necessary tools to adjust to the demands of a college environment, while helping them develop good study habits and decision-making skills that increase retention and graduation rates for college students.

Sankofa Summer Bridge – Sankofa is designed to support the retention and recruitment of Black students at NSC. The Intensive summer program is for juniors and seniors considering NSC. Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive a $250 stipend. Should you decide to enroll at NSC, you will also receive an additional $2,500 scholarship. You will also receive access to NSC community and priceless mentorship from the Las Vegas area.

Transportation & Parking

How will you get to campus?

Important Dates & Tuition Payment Deadline

Identify important dates including the tuition payment deadline.

Access the 2021-2022 Academic Calendar to view important dates such as registration dates, add/drop deadlines, holidays, etc.

To be eligible for NSC’s merit-based scholarships, first-year students must apply for admission to Nevada State College by December 18, 2021, and send final seventh semester high school transcript to the Office of Admissions & Recruitment by May 15, 2022. Scholarships in Nevada will be awarded based on the unweighted GPA of the seventh semester transcript.

Tuition Deadline – Last day to pay tuition online without penalties has yet to be announced.

If your financial aid is still pending and you have an outstanding balance on the day of the tuition payment deadline, it is suggested that you sign up for a payment plan to avoid being dropped from your classes.

A payment plan option breaks your educational costs into easy to handle monthly payments rather than paying for the entire semester in one large sum. You can enroll in the payment plan with your MyNSC account. There is a non-refundable $25 fee to enroll in the payment plan. The payment plan allows you to pay monthly; students will not be administratively dropped from their classes so long as they make the payment by their payment plan due date. Please note that payment plans for the Fall and Spring terms can be divided up to 4 payments throughout the semester.

How to sign-up for payment plan:
1) Visit the NSC Portal, Student Center.
2) Under Finances, click on the drop-down box.
3) Click on “Enroll in Payment Plan.”

First Day of Class

Things to plan and consider before your first day of class.

Buy Textbooks – Search and buy textbooks ahead of time at NSC’s Bookstore or another site

Class Schedule – Have your class schedule ready which can be found on MyNSC.

Map Out Classes – Check out NSC’s Campus Map to identify the location of your classes

Be On Time – Consider traffic and the time it will take to find parking and walk to class
