Christy Abercrombie, Post-Secondary Counselor Lead

Christy joined Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas in October 2016 as a College Access Advisor. In August 2017 she moved to College Counseling and served as a College Counselor for Del Sol Academy , Chaparral High School and the Upper School at Democracy Prep Academy. In August of 2021 she transferred to the Post-Secondary Department and is currently the Post-Secondary Counselor for first-and second-year students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the College of Southern Nevada.

Prior to coming to the Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas, Christy worked in college admissions for eighteen years. Starting as an Admission Counselor, and then Assistant Director of Admissions for a small private university in Ohio, she worked primarily with first-generation students from Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Christy eventually moved back home to Nevada to work as the Transfer Coordinator for the University of Nevada, Reno. She established transfer offices at the three College of Southern Nevada campuses to advised transfer students and started a program to provide guidance to high school students not initially admissible to the university. Christy also worked with students at 11 local high schools to guide them through the admission and financial aid processes.

Christy started her educational journey at the College of Southern Nevada where she received an associate degree in Business. She then went to Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science, Economics and Anthropology. She earned her first master’s degree in History from Miami University (Ohio) and the second in Sociology from New Mexico State University. She completed a graduate certification in College Counseling from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2018. Currently, Christy is finishing her dissertation “Navigating Basic-Needs Insecurity Through College” for completion of an Ed.D in Higher Education from Wilmington University (Delaware) with an intended graduation date of May 2022.

Favorite memory from college: My first fall at Plymouth State University in Northern New Hampshire –most beautiful fall I ever saw!
