Astrid Ek is proud to be a College Counselor at FFLV. She is passionate about partnering with students and their families to achieve their goals and believes success stems from understanding what you are passionate about and why. Being a former ESL and first-generation college student, Astrid believes that education is a unique journey and that where you start should never determine where you end.
Prior to joining FFLV, Astrid was the Senior Academic Advisor/First Year Specialist at California College of the Arts helping transition first-year students into college life in and outside the classroom. She has 10+ years of experience advising, advocating, mentoring and teaching students to navigate the higher education system and create the best possible experience for themselves. As a former Admissions Counselor and member of multiple admission committees, she is familiar with what schools are looking for and always encourages her students to think of themselves and their strengths holistically.
As a former volunteer reentry advisor and college counselor at San Quentin State Prison, Astrid is passionate about education and prison reform and strongly believes that everyone deserves a chance to succeed.
Astrid received her B.A. in Sociology from UCLA in 2010 and an M.Ed in Equity and Social Justice in Education from San Francisco State University in 2017. Originally from Italy, she spent most of her life in the Bay Area, CA and is now a proud resident of Las Vegas, NV.
